In this blog post, I shared five (5) amazing and practical tips on how to save your marriage from crashing. Either married or not, you will need these tips in the future especially if you are engaged in a relationship with the hope of marriage someday.

  • Speak of how much you love each other often
  • Learn to Listen More-It saves the marriage from crisis
  • Couples need to render Selflessness services to each other
  • Giving to each other Sacrificially will save your marriage
  • Show Appreciate for every little kind gesture

1. SPEAK OF HOW MUCH YOU LOVE EACH OTHER OFTEN

“I try to say I love you in a million different ways. That’s what I aspire to do. That’s what I do best.”

Christine McVie

One of the major ways to save your marriage from crashing is through words.

Words are powerful.

Statistics show that women speak an average of 20,000 words per day while men only speak an average of 7,000 words a day. Remember, the Bible showed to us that sin becomes unavoidable in the multitude of words (Proverbs 10:19). Therefore, a young girl needs to understand this about her personality even before marriage, so that she does not fall into the error of too many talks.

You can either improve your marriage with words or do otherwise. Let the words you speak bring life, hope and joy to your marriage. Words of life or death are not literally what it means. You speak life when your words edify, inspire, motivate, encourage, and restore hope in your spouse’s heart. A word of life out of a heart full of love does much like medicine. Your words can heal, restore, deliver, and uplift your spouse when it is from a pure heart of love. By your word, you can save your marriage from crisis and by the same words you can cause more problems.

Interestingly, your words of love to your partner are essential to the sustenance of your marital relationship. You must not be ashamed or afraid to tell each other how much you love yourselves.

Say it when your partner makes you proud, angry, happy and even in the presence of people. Never get tired of expressing your love to your lover. The more you tell your spouse how much you love him or her; you begin to create a circumference of affection among yourself and this will save your marriage from a crisis.

It is never too late to say, “I love you”, even amidst conflict. Do not allow ego to steal your home away from you. Interestingly, you can express your love with a little gift of an I LOVE YOU ASL t-shirt.

2. LEARN TO LISTEN MORE (IT SAVES THE MARRIAGE FROM CRISIS)

Awesome!

The act of listening is one of the skills every individual needs to develop, especially in a world like ours, where everybody wants to speak, but no one is ready to listen. Every human seeks recognition and wants to feel like they are in charge.

“So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

James 1:19-20

Listening to each other in marriage is an important tip on how to save your marriage from crashing. You must learn to pay attention to the tone of voice of your spouse when he or she speaks.

3. SELFLESSNESS SERVICES TO EACH OTHER WILL SAVE YOUR MARRIAGE

“Loving is selfless and not selfish.”

Selfless service is born out of love. If you truly love your spouse, you will pay the sacrifice to go the extra mile for him or her just to save your marriage from issues.

Love is more than words; it is actions in a particular direction. Love will motivate you to get out of your conveniences to help your spouse out not because of what you will get in return but for the sake of the love and oneness to keep the marriage together.

Many times as a husband or wife, it might not be comfortable to run errands or help with house chores, but selfless service says, love will not only be in times of comfort. You can go the extra mile for the sake of the one you love.

Subsequently, commitment in marriage is a great sacrifice because your suggestion, decision and choices depend on two persons now. When you were still single, it was easy for you to make hasty decisions and bear the consequences alone. You could do things rashly without minding if it will affect another person or not. However, once you are married, you are now two persons who live as one. Therefore, you have to commit to making sure that your choices or decisions do not hurt the other person.

4. GIVE TO EACH OTHER SACRIFICIALLY

“Don’t take the high ground and assume you already know what you’ll do. The truth is, when it comes to someone you love, you’ll find there isn’t anything you won’t do.”

Richelle Mead

One of the essential ingredients to save your marriage from crisis is the act of giving.

Giving is one of the expressions of love, which you must not relegate either in your relationship or marriage. You cannot say you love your partner if you do not show it by buying gifts. Interestingly, the act of giving each other gifts must be a culture in your home because through giving you pass a message that you appreciate your partner always not because of what he or she had done but because of who your partner is to you.

A gift does not have to be a very expensive or luxurious package. You can give a Lagniappe. A lagniappe is a small, inexpensive gift like flowers, perfumes, chocolate, bracelet, wristwatches, and so on.

Little things can make a huge difference in your marriage. Never underestimate the potential of a simple gift in your home. A simple gift can end grievance and rekindle the flame of love in your home again. More women prefer gifts as a show of love than men. However, this does not mean that men do not like gifts from their partner; in fact, the desire is more for men. But, gifts to most men are not proof of love to them if honors and respect are absent.

4. APPRECIATE EACH OTHER

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”

Williams Arthur Ward

Often, appreciation is an act that seems lagging in many homes, which leads to crisis. So, one way of learning how to save your marriage from crashing is to show appreciation.

Appreciation is a show that you are not only grateful for the other person’s effort, but you also value the person in your life. We appreciate those we value because they are precious to us and we care for them. When you are unappreciative to your partner, it frustrates him or her.

Appreciation is beyond words like thank you, and I am grateful. Although you can start with words to show appreciation, that is not the hallmark. Appreciation is an action motivated by a grateful heart.

Do not only tell your partner you appreciate his or her effort; show it. No matter how much you are grateful, without a commensurate action, your words of gratitude are empty.  Be willing to assist your partner, no matter how little it might be and do it sincerely.

Words like: you make my life beautiful, I am not complete without you, thank God I found you, you are the best for me, and many other beautiful words like these are good to show appreciation. In your words of appreciation, say what you mean and do it sincerely.

Love grows in marriage when each partner despises their weakness, builds on their strength, and forge ahead to achieve a common goal. This way, you will save your marriage from a crisis.
