Yes! I was once seeking to find the answer to the question of why do we pray every day?
Several Bible verses point out that prayer answers all things (Psalms 91:15, Matthew 7:8). Now, since prayer answers all things, why do we have to do it every day? Can’t we just pray all we need today and get answers to all our needs?
Of course, that had been my thoughts for many years, even as a believer. I understand the importance of prayers, but I do not know why we should pray every day. It was later I realized that prayer is beyond asking to receive. There is more to prayer than God wanting to meet human needs. What God seeks in prayers is communication. It is the communication of the regenerated man’s spirit with God’s spirit.
God desires sound communication between you and Him. Hence, He ordained prayer as the only means of communication. The truth is, prayer transcends the human mind. It is not what you do because you feel it is the right thing to do. Prayer is God’s spirit beckoning to the human spirit to come. The Bible says;
And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
Revelation 22:17
Amazing! God designed prayers for fellowship, not necessarily to meet daily needs. Of course, God knows your needs even before you ask Him, but our relationship with Him is what matters first. Through prayers, we fellowship with God and develop an intimate relationship with His Spirit.
So, in this blog post, I would like to inspire your heart and rekindle your spirit on why we pray every day and how we can pray rightly.
Why do we pray every day?
- Prayer is Living
Okay, I want you to do a simple exercise for me.
Breathe in.
Breathe out.
Now, I would like you to hold your breath for a few seconds. How does it feel? It feels very uncomfortable, right?
Exactly, this is the same feeling when you refuse to pray every day. Just like you breathe in oxygen to live, prayers are also needed for your continuous living. You cannot keep living in this wicked world without a continuous life of prayers.
The devil always seeks whom he may devour and what keeps us strong and defensive against the devil is our consistent prayer life. You must understand that our life is first spiritual. Once the spiritual life is in place, every other thing falls in place.
But, once your spiritual life is out of place without a prayerful lifestyle, it becomes difficult to live the God kind of life. Therefore, make prayer an everyday lifestyle.
2. Prayer helps us to find and live our purpose
Purpose is critical to every human existence. No one is without purpose, only people who had not yet discovered their purpose in life. Purpose is divine, and you align yourself to it in the place of prayers. Whatever God had deposited in you will never manifest until you seek the one who had made the deposit.
Dear friend, make prayers a lifestyle, and your life will become a wonder to the world-enough of trying to figure out what fits you in this life. You do not have forever to live. Stop using this one life you have to humanly calculate what you should be doing with your life. Rather, seek the one who created life, and let Him direct your path.
Your purpose is what distinguishes you from every other person around you at a specific time and season. The truth is that our life is not our own. We are created for a purpose which is vividly stated in the scripture.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
I Peter 2:9
You must be aware that you are called into fellowship with God through prayers, and in the process, you live out God’s deposit in you. Our daily living must communicate God’s goodness and glory upon the earth.
3. Prayer helps us redeem the times
“Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
Ephesians 5:16
Evidently, the times are evil. However, God still loads our day with daily benefits. But the evil in the times always attempts to steal from us what the Lord had blessed us with. There are opportunities for progress, success and increase daily. But you must learn how to tap into it through prayers. Through prayers, we receive faith for our miracles.
What the devil does is to make us waste our time on what will not profit us so that we can lose out on the blessing God had prepared for us.
However, there is a way out of the devil’s trap, and this is through daily prayers. Pray without ceasing because your adversity, the devil, is always at work to make sure that God’s plan for your life does not come to pass.
Always pray when you are up. Do it when you are down. Pray in the morning and at night time. Pray when you feel like it and when you do not feel like it.
Importance of Prayer
Once you make prayer a habit, you will find out that things about your life begin to align to their rightful places. Opportunities, progress, success, and unmerited favor become evident in your life.
Consequently, prayers draw you closer to God. Are you the one battling to have a smooth fellowship with God? Have you been dealing with inconsistency about your relationship with God? Do you always want to enjoy that spiritual aura? Then, give yourself to prayers.
The more you fellowship and commune with God, the more you know Him and become devoted to Him. God said in His word:
I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.
Proverbs 8:17
Dear believer, it is time to love upon God. God is willing to show himself mighty to those who love Him. When we pray consistently, our heart becomes knitted with God’s heart.
Furthermore, prayer aligns our hearts with God’s intent. God’s intention for us is that we prosper and be in good health even as our soul prospers (III John 1:2). God’s plans for you are always good. God does not do evil, and He will never tempt you with evil. But how do you know all these things about God if you have not learned to listen to His heartbeat for you while you pray.
Dear friend, let prayers be your lifestyle, and each day of your life will be an expression of God’s goodness. It is good if you question why we pray every day because now you have seen the reason and importance. Therefore, I want you to brace yourself up, and commit to a daily life of prayers.
Let us Pray…
